Management of tumors in the lateral skull base requires precise anatomical knowledge and surgical skills and, in malignancies, still remains a challenging problem. Despite several offered surgical techniques and approaches to the infratemporal fossa, many patients with recurrent, metastatic, or extensive primary cancers are considered inoperable. But with respect to concerning benign tumors, the treatment of choice is surgical extirpation. After Fairbanks-Barbosa(1961) introduced dissection of the infratemporal fossa, Fisch described and classified the technique into three different categories(Type A, B & C) in 1978. We applied infratemporal fossa type C approach in two cases of benign and a case of malignant tumor involving infratemporal fossa and lateral skull base. This paper reviews the utilization of this technique and reports our results.
