ABSTRACT

Upper eyelid loading by gold weight was used satisfactorily to treat the lagophthalmos in permanent facial paralysis. This 53 years old female patient had been treated surgically due to facial nerve schwannoma in the middle ear and mastoid cavity, reconstructed using the greater auricular nerve about 15 months previous. We performed gold-implantation to correct the lagophthalmos. This technique is simple to perform, produces an acceptable cosmetic and functional result and has a relatively low complication rate.
