ABSTRACT

In the intracranial complication of the chronic otitis media, meningitis was the most common complication (37%), and brain abscess had the highest mortality rate (36%). Temporal lobe abscesses are more common than cerebellar abscesses by a ratio of 2 :1, but cerebellar abscesses resulting in a fatal outcome occur more frequently. The reduction in the morbidity and mortality of brain abscess was attributed primarily to the introduction of antibiotic therapy and the development of computerized tomography. The authors have recently experienced a case of otogenic cerebellar abscess which was treated successfully with antibiotics and otologic surgery. Therefore we present a case with review of the literature.
