ABSTRACT

The free osteocutaneous scapular flap is a composite flap including the free cutaneous scapular flap and a piece of the scapular bone as a bone framework. Its many advantages may overcome a few minor disadvantages. This technique may be useful to reconstruct the bone and soft tissue in the head and neck. We have experienced the reconstruction using the free osteocutaneous scapular flap for the mandible and soft tissue following composite resection in three patients(two tongue cancers, one submandibular gland cancer). Any troublesome complication has not been found in two patients. The necrosis of a part of the flap was found in one patient and debrided, but other complications have not been found.
