ABSTRACT

We had examined 60 healthy persons (boys and men 30, girls and women 30.) to know how influence the obstructed nose to the vital capacity. The following results were found. 1) When we had obstructed one or both nose, the vital capacity was generally smaller and same in a few examples and never larger compared with the normal vital capacity. 2) When we had compared the one obstructed nose with both obstructed nose, 33 examples were same. But former case had 23 larger and 4 smaller examples than latter case in the vital capacity. 3) The great difference between normal nose and one obstructed nose in the vital capacity was 0.5 liter, the great difference between normal nose and both obstructed nose in the vital capacity was 0.6 liter. 4) It seemed to us that the decrease of the vital capacity by the acutely obstructed nose mainly depended on a kind of the discomfort and fatigue feelings caused by the decrease of respiratory process.
