Clinical Observation on Foreign Bodies in Food and Air Passages for Past 10 Years

ABSTRACT

Forty-four foreign body cases in food and air passages (during the period of Jan. 1955 to Aug. 1965) has been studied and following results were obtained. 1) 40 cases were in the esophagus and 4 cases in the Trachea and Bronchus. 2) 31 cases (77.5%) of the esophagus forein bodies were found in children under 10 years, and greater portion showed coins whereas the adults had bones or pieces of meat. 3) In the foreign bodies of the esophagus, 35% were found in the 1st narrowing and 20% were picked out from the 2nd narrowing. 4) 2 case of the bronchial foreign bodies were happened in children under 10 years and one of them was dead before operation owing to the quick choking.
