Tuberculous infection of the nose has been said to be the rarest form of localized tuberculosis. A 28-year-old Korean woman, in her eighth month of pregnancy, visited to the O.P.D. of otolaryngology, S.N.U. Hospital on June 14, 1966, with the chief complaints of nasal obstruction, rhinorrhea, headache and the episode of frequent nasal bleeding. Physical examination of the nose revealed that a purplish red, sessile, polyp-like tumor mass was seen on the left lower middle portion of the nasal septum with easy bleeding by touching But this had not the appearance or consistency of the usual nasal polyp. And both nasal fossae had hypertrophied inferior turbinates with moderate amount of mucopurulent discharge. Chest X-ray revealed no active lesions and X-rays of maxillary antrum showed mild degree of bilateral maxillary infections. Mantoux test was positive, while cardiolipin flodculation test negative. The polypoid mass was removed at base of the tumor following topical anesthesia and considerable amount of nasal bleeding was noted from the septum. The surgical specimen measuring 1.0 cm×0.8 cm×0.4 cm proved to be fibrocaseous tuberculosis of the nasal septum that was made a favorable response for a complete cure by use of streptomycin, PAS and INH.
