A Case of the Labyrinthitis Following Tuberculous Meningitis

ABSTRACT

With recent development of antituberculous drugs and early diagnostic measures, tuberculosis in E.N.T. field is a rare disease now a days. According to the available medical references, it revealed that the middle ear tuberculosis occupies the most of it, and that inner ear tuberculosis is extremely rare. Recently, we have experienced a case of labyrinthitis following tuberculous meningitis. The 26-year-old patient who had been suffering from tuberculous meningitis for approximately 6 months duration was consulted to E.N.T. section from infectious disease section with the chief complaints of hearing loss, vertigo, nausea, and vomiting. The tympanic membrane and the tympanic cavity was no abnormal findings on otoscopic examination. But vestibular irritation signs and sensory-neural type hearing loss were noted. He was finaly given the diagnosis of labyrinthitis following tuberculous meningitis.
