ABSTRACT

An attempt was made to obtain the values of lysozyme activity and pH in nasal discharge in various conditions of nose and paranasal sinuses. The results obtained were as follows ; 1. The value of lysozyme in normal nasal discharge was in average 3.75±2.32×102mg/ml which was varied from 0.4×102mg/ml to 11.7×102mg/ml. 2. The range of pH in normal nasal discharge was from 7.0 to 7.8. 3. The lysozyme activity was higher in nasal discharge from acute inflammed nose than that of chronic. 4. The lysozyme activity in nasal discharge was reversed by increasing the pH. 5. The lysozyme activity seemed to rise about one week after sinus surgery more than preoperative.
