ABSTRACT |
The term ""mixed tumor"" designated the commonest group of major salivary gland tumor, which characteristically show combined traits of epithelial and connective tissue-like growth. From Ahlbom's monograph it appears that the term "" mixed tumor"" date from Minssen's review in 1874. (Foote, 1954). But mixed salivary tumors have been found to arise from almost anywhere in the upper alimentary and respiratory tract like lips, tongue, floor of the mouth, tonsils, cheek, alveolar ridge, soft palate, hard palate, pharynx and larynx as a minor salivary gland tumor. It is, however, uncommon in the nasal cavity and is extremely rare to arise from the nasal septum. Since the first description of the benign mixed tumor, there have been one case reported about the benign mixed tumor arising from nasal septum in the literature. (Majed, 1971). Here is such a rare case of benign mixed tuor arising from the nasal septum. The patient was a 12 year old female who had nasal stuffiness of the left side, headache and epistaxis of 1 year duration. At operation, this tumor was located at the antero-superior portion of cartilagenous nasal septum. A brief review of the literature was made.
