ABSTRACT

Reticulum cell sarcoma of the nose is extremely rare. A 24 years old Korean soldier was admitted with chief complaints of nasal bleeding, nasal obstruction, dull headache and blurred vision of both side on July, 11, 1971. On the initial physical examination, left nasal cavity revealed a irregularly dirty tumor like mass arising from middle turbinate with easily massive nasal bleeding by manupulation and marked deviated septum. Posterior rhinoscopy showed complete occlusion on nasopharynx. Initially, biopsy finding revealed anaplastic carcinoma in nasopharynx. He was died on Sept., 24, 1971. Autopsy findings showed grayish-white tumor masses which were completely filled in nasal cavity, ethmoid & maxillary sinuses and orbit on both side. The massive bony destructions were noted on roof, floor of orbit, and cella turcica, roof of sphenoid, cribriform plate as well as most of anterior cranial fossa. Tumor mass weighted approximately 350 gm. The histopathological finding was finally confirmed as the reticulum cell sarcoma in nasal cavity associated with intranasal meningocele.
