ABSTRACT

Although the sensory-neural hearing loss due to CO intoxication is a well known disease, most of them were due to chronic intoxication and most of them were accompanied with vestibular signs. The mechanism of it was also studied extensively including impairment of oxygen carrying mechanism by the formation of carboxy-hemoglobin etc. The inner ear is as sensitive as central nervous system to anoxia comparing to other peripheral sensory systems. But it is quite rare to have acute hearing loss without vestibular involvement. Here, the author experienced a rare case of acute hearing loss due to CO intoxication which was caused by suicidal attempt and here author reports it with the literatural review.
