ABSTRACT

We experienced a case of foreign body, which formed fistula between esophagus and trachea. A 6-year-old boy swallowed metal bottom piece, which was used for cap furniture. His parents neglected this events. Since 3 monthes previous, he complained mild cough and mild dyspnea. So he visited local pediatrician and was diagnosed as common cold. In spite of treatment, these symptoms were not subsided. 3 days ago, he visited pediatric dept. of a hospital. Under the diagnosis of bronchopneumonia, he was admitted to ped. dept., and he took chest P-A, as routine check. On this X-Ray, radiopaque round material was noticed in esophagus. Then he was transferred to our ENT Dept. of Woo-Sok Hospital. As failure of endoscopic removal, under general anesthesia and tracheotomy, this foreign body was removed by lateral neck dissection. Due to economic condition, he was transferred to previous hospital for free of cost. He was died about 2 mo. later, but we did not know the cause of his death.
