ABSTRACT |
There are two cases of atresia of external auditory canal, one of which is congenital and the other acquired deformity. Embriologically, ectodermal origin of congenital atresia of the external auditory canal is very rare. Developmental defect of the canal may involve only the cartilagenous portion, only the bony portion, or most, commonly, both. In the majority of cases, the entire canal wall be absent with, at most, a shallow dimple serving to delineate the tragus from the rest of the deformed auricle. There was only one reported case in our country until now about the congenital atresia of external auditory canal with chronic mastoiditis by Dr. Park. The authors have experienced recently a case of congenital atresia of external auditory canal with chronic suppurative otitis media and cholesteatoma in a 20 year old male who had been sufferring from atresia of external auditory canal and hearing impairment on right ear since birth and received incision and drainage of 2 times in right postior auricular region due to swelling and tenderness in that area. |
