Pleomorphic adenomas are histologically benign neoplasms hitherto called ""benign mixed tumors"". The tumor was first described by Kaltschmied in 1725 and clinically systematized by Bilroth in 1859. Most pleomorphic adenomas arise in major salivary glands. However, their development in the minor salivary glands of the oral cavity, pharynx, paranasal sinuses, and in skin and lacrimal glands is well known. Recently the authors have experienced a case of ulcerative pleomorphic adenoma of the hard palate in a 44-years-old woman. Under general anesthesia, surgical removal was performed and pathological examination revealed pleomorphic adenoma, probably malignant on the hard palate. This is the report of a case with review of literature. |
