A Clinical and Statistical Observation of Surgery of Otolaryngological Field

ABSTRACT

A clinical and statistical analysis was carried out on 449 operated cases (485 admitted patients) at our clinic during the period of one year from July 78 to June 79. The following results were obtained. 1) The admission rate was 3.0 percent and operation rate was 2.8 percent of total ENT patients respectively. 2) The highest incidence in age distribution was the second decade (29%) and followed by the third decade (20%). Sex distribution was higher in male (57%) than female (43%) with a ratio 1.3 to 1.0. 3) The highest incidence was observed in January in monthly distribution and winter in seasonal distribution. 4) The operation distribution was as following. Head and neck operation ; 84 cases (17.5%), Otologic operation : 88 cases (18.3%), Plastic and reconstructive operation : 42 cases (8.7%), Endoscopic operation : 68 cases (14.2%), General operation : 198 cases (41.3%). a. The most frequent operation in head and neck field was tracheostomy (26 cases), and followed by neck node biopsy (11 cases). b. : in otologic field was tympanoplasty and mastoidectomy (65 cases) and followed by radical mastoidectomy (17 cases). c. : in plastic and reconstructive field was reduction of nasal bone fracture (10 cases) and followed by repair of cleft palate (9 cases). d. : in endoscopic field was direct laryngoscopy (68 cases) and followed by the esophagoscopy (31 cases). e : in general field was intranasal antrostomy (43 cases) and followed by the tonsillectomy with adenoidectomy (42 cases).
