ABSTRACT

There have been numerous experimental works suggesting the immunologic function of the tonsil, however no remarkable immunologic changes have been proved clinically in the patients suffering from chronic tonsillitis. In order to evaluate the immunologic changes following tonsillectomy, the authors measured preoperative and postoperative ASO titer in tonsillectomized patients. Among the 156 patients who had done tonsillectomy, 73 patients (46.8%) showed no change of ASO titer, 34 patients (21.8%) showed rise of ASO titer, 49 patients (31.4%) showed fall of ASO titer at postoperative second day. The temporal bone histopathological findings in a case of gentamycin a sulfate induced hearing loss and vertigo in an anephric patient undergoing hemodialysis are presented. A study of the sensory neuroepithelium.
