ABSTRACT

The common causes of closed injuries of the neck are automobile accidents and sports troubles ; those of open injuries are gun-shot wounds and stap wounds. Generally, the treatment of wide laryngeal and pharyngeal injuries consists of maintenance of adequate airway or tracheostomy, prevention of infection, simple repair for the normal anatomical position and function, and secondary reconstruction for the complications including laryngeal stenosis. Recently, the authors experience a case of extensive communicated wound with large defect on the laryngopharyngeal structures and anterior neck skin. This large defect was reconstructed with horizontal cervical skin flap after total laryngectomy.
