ABSTRACT

Since the development of antibacterial therapy, there is a remarkable reduction in the incidence of the otogenic intracranial complications. However, otitis media, particularly in the case of chronic suppurative otitis media with cholesteatoma, continues to be the most frequent cause of brain abscess. This complication has become more difficult to diagnose due to the masking effect of antibiotics. The authors experienced a case of otogenic cerebellar abscess in a 17 year-old male, and the cerebellar abscess was successfully cured by aspiration, irrigation and appropriate draining of pus of the abscess cavity through a silicone ventricular cannula with indwelling catheter.
