ABSTRACT

Impedance audiometry was performed as a part of the routine audiological examination and the results were analyzed in 397 consecutive patients with either normal or sensorineural audiograms. There was significant difference in the hearing threshold level between two hearing groups regardless of the tympanogram type ; and between the Type B and C tympanogram in both groups. The compliance was normally distributed when the volume was represented as a logarithmic scale and there was no significant difference between the normals and sensorineurals. Compliance values of each tympanogram types showed no significant difference in either group. There was significant difference in the acoustic reflex threshold between the normals and the sensorineurals. Neither the normals nor the sensorineurals showed the kind of systematic age difference. As the sensorineural hearing loss increases, the reflex threshold increases in regular, one-to-one fashion. The relation was linear and of unit slope.
