Auditory brainstem response(ABR) has been utilized easily due to its non- invasiveness, reproducibility, and no need for patient cooperation. 673 cases of ABR were recorded from July 1982 to December 1984 to detect pediatric hearing loss, malingering, neuro-otologic diseases and other neurological diseases. The following results were obtained. 1) Among 395 pediatric cases who were suspected to have hearing loss, 85 had normal hearing, 47 had sensori-neural hearing loss, and 263 were totally deaf. 2) Among 51 suspected malingerers, 5 were regarded as malingerer and the remaining 46 had hearing loss. 3) Among 227 cases who were suspected to have neuro-otologic or neurologic disease, 95 had normal response (IT5Ë0.2msec) and 32 showed abnormal results (IT5>0.2msec or no wave V). Of 15 cases of CPA tumors, 14 showed no wave V.
