Neonatal Audiologic Screening

ABSTRACT

The need for the earliest possible identification of hearing loss has been well understood. It has, however, not been an important issue of discussion in Korea so far. Daegu Fatima hospital set up a language therapy clinic in 1978 and started audiologic screening of ""High-Risk"" newborns since January 1979. Here we report the result of the first two years---from January 1, 1979 to December 31, 1980. 1) Total birth : 6469, 2) High risk register : 81, 3) Confirmed auditory handicaps : 4, Total deafness : 1, Profound sensorineural hearing loss : 2, Moderate sensorineural hearing loss : 1, 4) Lost to follow-up : 39, 5) 2 on language therapy at present.
