ABSTRACT |
Determination of serum IgE level had become an important diagnostic procedure of a patient with established or suspected allergic diseases. Serum IgE level was determined by ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) technique in 82 patients with allergic rhinitis and 39 healthy subjects. The results were as follows ; 1) Mean serum IgE value of 39 healthy subjects was 113.2±41.5I.U/ml The difference of the mean serum IgE values among each age groups was not statistically significant. There was also no significant difference between male and female. 2) Mean serum IgE value of 82 patients with allergic rhinitis was 470.1±299.7.I.U/ml. Serum IgE values were elevated more than 400 I.U/ml in 61% of allergic rhinitis group. There was significant difference of serum IgE values between allergic rhinitis group and healthy group. 3) Elevation of eosinophil count in peripheral blood was 39 cases (47.6%) out of the 82 cases with allergic rhinitis. 4) Eosinophilia in nasal smear was 42 cases(51.2%) out of the 82 cases with allergic rhinitis. 5) Serum IgE value had no significant correlation with age, sex, eosinophil count of peripheral blood and eosinophil count of nasal smear.
