ABSTRACT

The cemento-ossifying fibroma, a mesodermal type of odontogenic tumor, is rarely discussed in the otolaryngologic literature. It is chiefly located in the mandibular molar or premolar area and is generally neither aggressive nor excessively destructive. It is thought to arise in the periodontal membrane, the layer of fibrous connective tissue that surrounds all tooth roots. We experienced recently a case of cemento-ossifying fibroma in a 30 years old male, involving right maxillary sinus and hard palate after facial trauma. The tumor was successfully removed by extended Caldwell-Luc approach under general anesthesia and histopathologically diagnosed as a cemento-ossifying fibroma. Postoperative follow up was yet uneventful.
