ABSTRACT

An expert system which supports the diagnosis of hearing loss was developed. The final diagnosis encompassed 41 diseases with the problem of the hearing loss. It used the procedural model of computation, utilizing the popular spreadsheet of Lotus 123, release II, produced by the LOTUS Development Corporation. The program was written in the spreadsheet with the macro key, which is a type of programmable language provided by the software. The system operated well with the instruction of the program. It cannot provide a summary of the reasoning, which is the common problem of the procedural models of computation. A brief developmental history of the expert system is described, and the advantages and disadvantages of the models of the expert system are discussed.
