ABSTRACT

Thirty patients with cochleovestibular disturbance were treated with trimetazidine(Vastinan®) to evaluate its efficacy on vertigo, tinnitus and hypoacusis. Following administration of 20mg of trimetazidine three times in a day for 30 days and for 60 days, the results were compared with pre-trial status. The average age of patients was 46.5(17-68) and the efficacy was evaluated by Sign test. The efficacy on patients with vertigo(N=11) and tinnitus(N=27) was statistically significant with decrease in the degree of symptoms(p<0.05). However, no significant change was noted in patients with hypoacusis. Side effect was not remarkable with only one case of transient drowsiness in this study. It was suggested that trimetazidine might be a therapeutically effective drug for management of ischemic cochleovestibular disturbance probably of ischemic origin.
