ABSTRACT

Twenty patients with allergic rhinitis had been treated with LORATADINE(CLARITYNE) for 4 weeks. LORATADINE is a competitive antagonist of histamine at H1 receptors. It effectively blocks the action of histamine in tissues that undergo allergic reactions. The clinical efficacy of therapy was excellent in 6 cases(30%) and good in 10 cases(50%). The total symtom scores were reduced significantly. The side effect such as somnolence, dry mouth, and gastrointestinal disturbance was not occurred. It was suggested that LORATADINE is effective and safe drug for management of allergic rhinitis.
