ABSTRACT

Cancer of the oropharynx appears to be increasing in frequency, and several factors, such as longer life expectancy and the increasing use of tobacco and alcohol at an early stage, may be contributing to this rise. In the surgical treatment of oropharyngeal cancer, the increasing proportion of favorable lesion has provided more opportunity for operations that minimize cosmetic and functional disability and reduce the need for reconstruction. When the mandible is uninvolved by tumor, the mandibulotomy approach is a valuable technique, allowing preservation of the mandibular arch while providing excellent visualization and access to the entire posterior oral cavity. The authors have recently experienced a case of right tonsillar squamous cell carcinoma in a 50 years old male patient who had treated by resection of the tumor through median mendibulotomy approach with good result. So, we report this case with review of the literature.
