ABSTRACT |
Salmonella is a gram-negative motile bacillus that is not pore-forming. Four types of infection are typically seen The most common presentation is the gastroenteritis and less frequently seen are enteric fever, septicemia with or without localized infection, and carrier state. Localized abscess by Salmonella infection tends to occur in patients having an underlying systemic illness or in those being treated with immunosuppressive therapy. But Salmonella infections of the head and neck are decidedly uncommon. Recently authors have experienced a case of 48-year old male who had a cervical abscess caused by Salmonella bacilli and was treated by surgical drainage and antibiotics. We report this case with review of literatures.
