Ramsay Hunt syndrome is characterized by the symptoms of facial palsy, severe otalgia, and vesicles. In general, it has poor prognosis, leaving many patients with permanent facial nerve dysfunction. We analyzed retrospectively fifteen cases of Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which had been treated with Acyclovir and prednisolone. In follow-ups of 1 to 30 months, 66.7% of cases had grade I recovery, 20% of cases grade II, but 13.3% of cases had grade III and grade IV recovery. There was a tendency that the case with early treatment and delayed onset of facial palsy after the intial symptom had good prognosis. While the study numbers were too small for statistical significance, combined prescription with Acyclovir and prednisolone seemed to be effective for the treatment of Ramsay Hunt syndrome.
