ABSTRACT |
Allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma are closely related in epidemiology and natural history. Skin prick test is a simple and easy method which can be done in OPD, and especially useful in the diagnosis of these allergic diseases. Authors performed this test for the patients who have allergic rhinitis(N=96) and bronchial asthma(N=53) from January to December in 1993. The results are as follows. 1) The mean number of positive skin reaction to each allergen group was 2.63 in allergic rhinitis patient and 1.89 in bronchial asthma patient(p=0.001). 2) Allergic rhinitis patients showed stronger skin reactivity to allergen than that of bronchial asthma patient(p<0.001). 3) The rate of unique allergen in each allergen group was as follows ; molds(66.7%), tree pollens(62.2%), weed pollens(62.2%), grass pollens (54.0%), house dust mites(39.6%), animal danders(34.5%). 4) House dust mite allergens brought positive skin reaction in 74.5% of total patients, followed by animal dander in 56.4%, mold in 38.3%, grass pollen in 33.6%, weed pollen in 30.2% and tree pollen in 30.2%. 5) The rate of positive skin reaction was higher in allergic rhinitis patient than in bronchial asthma patient.
