ABSTRACT

A large number of patients with laryngo-tracheal lesions or other problems require to wear a tracheostomy tube over prolonged periods. Various type of metallic and non-metallic tubes were in use and complications caused by these tubes were well documented. Recently the authors experienced a rare case that the outer cannula of metal tracheostomy tube became lodged in subglottic space & upper trachea. It was removed by partial resection of 2nd, 3rd & 4th tracheal ring with permanent tracheostomy under the general anesthesia. So the authors report it with review of literature.
