ABSTRACT |
The sugical outcome of facial nerve management were analyzed retrospectively in 22 cases of facial palsy caused by chronic otitis media. Among the patients, who received operation within 15 days from the onset, 12 cases(93.3%) were recovered to House-Brackmann(HB) grade I or II and there was no improvement in one cases. The recovery of the facial palsy does not seem to be promising when the surgery was performed after 15 days from the onset of facial palsy. Bad prognosis was noted in the case with fibrosis or neuroma. Ninety one percent of the patients were suffered from chronic otitis media for more than 10 years. Whether opening the sheath or not, the lesion site, and the causes may not influence the final recovery.
