| ABSTRACT |
|
Orbital fractures which may produce cosmetic problems and functional orbital damages are increasing in frequency with the rise in number of traffic accidents and assaults. The diagnosis is based on clinical grounds and radiologic procedures, but it may be difficult to detect fractures with plain X-rays of orbit because of the superimposition of the shadow by bony structures. It is important to recognize the associated signs and symptoms in order that the diagnois not be missed. Also because of the possibility of functional orbital damage later, as well as cosmetic problems, surgeons should manage the patient with a thorough understanding for orbital fractures. Twenty two cases with orbital fractures admitted to the Department of Otolaryngology of Hanil General Hospital from March, 1989 to January, 1992 were analyzed in age and sex distribution, causes, physical findings, anatomic location and surgical managements.
