ABSTRACT |
Luetic hydrops may occur in both congenital and acquired lues, and manifest similar symptoms of Meniere's disease. A 59-year-old male was presented with a history of episodic attacks of vertigo with accompanying tinnitus, ear fullness and hearing loss. Audiometric examination revealed a unilateral sensorineural hearing loss on the left side with a SRT of 30dB. Ice water test revealed depressed vestibular response on the left side. Serological test showed weakly reactive VDRL and 4+in FTA-ABS test. Spinal fluid test showed negative VDRL and 2+in FTA-ABS test with elevated protein and lymphocytes. Other laboratory results were in normal range. He was treated with penicillin and steroid under the diagnosis of luetic hydrops with satisfactory result.
