ABSTRACT |
Trauma to the laryngotracheal structures results in combinations of injuries and serious complications such as laryngeal paralysis, subglottic stenosis, tracheal stenosis and tracheoesophageal fistula. Acute laryngotracheal separation usually is the results of blunt or open injuries to the neck, and the most important indications in its treatment are prevention of respiratory obstruction and control of hemorrhage requiring endoscopy and early surgical repair. Authors report two cases of acute laryngotracheal separation. On the initial assessment, there were transverse incised wounds in the anterior necks with separation of the larynx from the trachea at the lower border of the cricoid cartilage. Immediate surgical exploration of the wounds and cricotracheal anastomosis was performed on each case.
