The Clinical Analysis of Nasopharyngeal Tuberculosis

ABSTRACT

Nasopharyngeal tuberculosis is a rare disease. The examination of nasopharynx must be included routinely for the patients with pulmonary tuberculosis because tuberculosis infection of the nasopharynx are more frequent than that of larynx. We investigated retrospectively nasopharyngeal tuberculosis in 7 cases for 10 years and we concluded as follows : 1. The average age was 25.6 year old, and it was more dominent in female than in male. 2. The predominent symptom was the palpable neck mass, other symptoms were odynophagia, sore throat, dryness, nasal stuffiness, or ear fullness. 3. In physical examination, palpable neck node was noted in 5 cases (71.4%), bilateral in 3 cases (40%). 4. Primary tuberculosis of the nasopharynx was 4 cases (57%), and secondary cases to pulmonary tuberculosis of the nasopharynx was in 3 cases (43%). 5. All cases was treated with anti-tuberculosis agents, and one case was treated with surgery and Medication.
