Clinical analysis was done on the 38 patients of tongue cancer which could be followed up during last 9 years(from 1980 to 1988) in Hanyang University hospital. 1) Among 373 cases of head & neck cancer, tongue cancer patients were 55 cases(14.7%). 2) The 6th decades were 14 cases and most common. 3) The tumor was involved in anterior 1/3 of tongue in 19 cases, middle 1/3 30 cases, and posterior 1/3 in 6 cases. 4) Among 38 followed up, stage I was 11 cases, stage II was 13 cases, stage III was 10 cases, stage IV was 4 cases. 5) According to the cervical lymph node level, level I was 8 cases, level II was 3 cases, level III was 3 cases. 6) In treatment modality, operation only was in 8 cases, operation with postoperative radiation was in 6 cases, and radiation only was in 23 cases, operation with preoperative radiation was in 1 case, preoperative chemotherapy was in 1 case. 7) Partial glossectomy only was done in 5 cases, partial glossectomy and modified neck dissection was done in 5 cases, hemiglossectomy, marginal mandibulectomy and radical neck dissection was done in 2 cases, hemiglossectomy, marginal mandibulectomy and radical neck dissection(pull through operation) was done in 3 cases. Reconstruction was done by primary repair in 10 cases, by forehead flap in 2 cases, and by pectoralis major myocutaneous flap in 3 cases. 8) In view of 3 years survival rate, stage I was 81.8%, stage II was 53.8%, stage III was 30%, stage IV was 0%.
